Muskogee Public Schools

Band and Choral

A new building addition was added to Muskogee’s existing 7th & 8th grade building. The new building includes a band room, choral room, practice rooms, teacher offices, storage and a student lobby. The exterior of the building was designed to complement the existing campus buildings. On the interior, ceilings were designed to be very tall creating a very open feeling. A musical quote and musical instruments are displayed in the lobby to reflect the musical arts.

High School Cafeteria

This project converted an existing cafeteria and serving areas to a food court featuring a “Trophy Café” for drinks and pastries, a Pizza parlor, “Rougher Grille” for short order menu items, and two main serving lines. Drink areas were enhanced and a “Rougher Store” was given a mall look where students can purchase shirts and spirit items. Flat screen TVs and a variety of seating offer the students a comfortable area to relax. The cafeteria has become the school commons and hosts many events. This project was planned so that construction started the end of May and was open on August 10 for the first day of school.

High School Renovation

The 200,000 s.f. renovation of interior spaces included Administration, Media Center, Cafeteria, Gymnasium, and all classrooms and science labs. The work included converting the little theater into a 100 person testing and seminar center. The project features bold colors and graphics for a pleasing atmosphere that supplements the school’s character statements. The renovation was awarded the Eastern Oklahoma AIA Merit Citation for design. This was the only public school project so honored in 2009. The project costs was just over $4,000,000 and came in a million dollars under budget allowing funds to be moved to other projects.

Indian Bowl

The Indian Bowl is a 1939 WPA built facility featuring 10,000 seat football stadium, track and football facility. Because it was located behind the Junior High, it had no real “front door”. The design approach features an inviting plaza and a covered entry pavilion with a wall for past champions, ticketing, concession and rest rooms.

The renovation of the stadium included a new three level press box that includes coaches suites, VIP suites, Press suites, hospitality areas and a enclosed camera deck on the top floor. The design allows for an elevator to be added later. Large graphic panels facing the filed add to school spirit while hiding the emergency stairs.

Renovation to existing restrooms and concession eliminated an overcrowded area under the home stadium by reorienting the restroom doors and creating better traffic patterns.

Irving Elementary Improvements

This project doubled the size of the existing media center and added a “reading tree” reading area that has become a new focal point for the school. In addition a new medical clinic was added to serve the needs of the school and the community.

Milam Gymnasium

The renovation of Muskogee’s High School gym included new court flooring, new graphics and finishes, remodel of concession, ticketing, hall of fame, Rougher Store, dressing rooms and work out spaces. All railings were replaced. The project gave a complete “rebranding” for the school.

Tony Goetz Elementary Improvements

This project included remodel of the school’s cafetorium and an expanded media center that featured an enhanced reading area. The Cafeteria project includes simple ceiling clouds and new lighting as well as a creative color palette. The cafeteria tables were replaced and new walk-in coolers were added to the kitchen.
