The public got a look at what will be built from monies from the $8.57 million bond proposal last week.
About 15 people and other school officials attended the meeting on May 6th as Socrates Lazaridis, with Renaissance Architects, gave them a short presentation on what the monies will build.
There were also renderings on display at the meeting.
A new building for the four-year0old program will be built on property just east of Ellington Elementary School. Lazaridis, explained there will be additional parking as well as a bus route loop and area for parents to drop off and pick up their children, which should help alleviate some of the traffic programs.
Of all the topics discussed, this was the one most debated among school officials and the public.
Ann Golden, said the closing of Lincoln Preschool, will lower the property values around that area.
“I don’t believe it’s fair,” she commented.
People were allowed to submit questions which officials answered. Another question asked was why was the building up to code in 2000 when it was reopened, but now it’s not considered efficient for the students.
Lazaridis explained that since then, the codes have changed and any modifications have to be done to the whole building.
Sonny Bates, Superintendent of Wagoner Public Schools, said the four-year-old program will be at the same site with the kindergarten and first grade classes. It will also help health issues, because currently food is prepared at Ellington and sent to Lincoln because it doesn’t have an adequate kitchen for the cafeteria. |
