Credit Union Opens

A step back in time was highlighted Friday with the formal opening of Moore's newest business addition in the new commercial devel-opment located in the Riverwalk Plaza, Interstate 35 and S. 19th St.

Officials cut the ceremo-nial ribbon to the Oklahoma Educators Credit Union, a structure designed by Renaissance Architects, Oklahoma City, to reflect the 1930 school of building era.

"It's likeness is especially fitting since we serve edu-cators across the state," said Bill Harris, Chairman of OECU's board of directors.

"Our attempt to blend a look of old with design matching more modern neighboring structures was a challenge and one we were privilege to do," said Socrates Lazaridis, architect / director and the project architect, Robert Grounds.

The 4200 square foot building with its brick veneer and trad-itional pediments add a bit of nostalgia to the board's efforts to increase customer convenience in the service area, Harris said.

Project cost was more than $500,000, resulting in the need of three additional employees to man the Moore branch. The facility features a large office interior with three teller booths, an enlarged drive through, ATM

service unit and ample parking.

OECU, credited with $40 million in assets, was started in 1960. Another branch office is located in Midwest City and with it's main office located in Oklahoma City. Totally, the credit union employs 23 people, according to Floyd Atha, OECU president.

OECU's board of directors are all retired educators and serve voluntarily. They include Bill Harris, Chandler; Dean Niles, Edmond; James Harrod, Shawnee; Tommy Fulton, Del City; Leyerle, publisher of the Newcastle paper, residing in Oklahoma City and Eli Mize, Edmond.
